Visual artistic identity is making a comeback in music, even if some say it never went away. “POSTGIG” highlights art’s role in the scene. The exhibit at the Fort Point Arts Community Gallery (300 Summer St.) is a showcase of original music poster artwork. Curated by local designer Clifford Stoltze, “POSTGIG” features poster/T-shirt designs for musicians from Mogwai and Rosie Thomas to the Decemberists. But the focus is on the designers, including Modern Dog Design Co. and the Decoder Ring.

The event runs through Saturday, with a reception Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. Call 617-423-4299 for gallery hours and info.

Abbey benefits

The push to save the Abbey Lounge is under way with a series of benefit shows this week. The Somerville bar faces a significant tax bill, so Abbey regulars are performing to raise money. The lineup continues tonight with the Spoilers, the Alrighters, Classic Ruins and Girl on Top. Tickets are $12; a full-week pass is available for $48. The complete lineup of shows, which run until Saturday, is at abbeylounge.com.
