Coldplay have announced the new tracklist for their forthcoming EP, Prospekt’s March. Only it’s the same as the old tracklist.

The confusion begins with a handwritten note posted on the Coldplay blog on October 3. “In November we are happy to announce that we are putting out an EP called Prospekt’s March,” Chris Martin wrote in blue biro. “[These songs] have each been the subject of many discussions and arguments; some might be considered too catchy or too heavy for Coldplay songs but in our minds they complete the Viva la Vida picture.”

Two days later, another note appeared on the blog, only in black and with different handwriting. “We’ve changed the tracklist for the Prospekt’s March EP,” wrote someone signing as “Prospekt”. We don’t know who this Prospekt person is, but it could certainly qualify for a long list of Chris Martin baby names.

Of course, the confusing bit isn’t the signature – it’s that the “changed” tracklist is identical to the original one.

Whether or not someone’s made a goof, the information is this: Prospekt’s March will include “eight songs that were not finished back in May (our deadline for Viva La Vida) but that have just been completed,” Chris Martin wrote.

The EP includes five new songs and three reworkings of tracks from Viva La Vida. Lovers in Japan (Osaka Sun mix) speaks for itself, Life in Technicolor II is a version of the Viva La Vida track with added vocals, and on Lost+ they haven’t just tacked on a plus-sign – they’ve also added a cameo from Jay-Z.

The EP will be released in November, available on its own or in a bundle with the Viva La Vida album. The EP, like the album, uses a Eugene Delacroix painting for its cover.

Coldplay still plan to release the track Lost+ as a single in the next couple of weeks, ahead of the EP. The digital release will also include the Jay-Z version.

Viva la Vida changed and unchanged tracklist:
1 Life in Technicolor II
2 Postcards from Far Away
3 Glass of Water
4 Rainy Day
5 Prospekt’s March/Poppyfields
6 Lost +
7 Lovers in Japan (Osaka Sun mix)
8 Now My Feet Won’t Touch the Ground
